Do you have a rain gutter on your house? Is it metal? You may be able to load it up directly. SGC customers have used a number of approaches to rain gutter antennas with significant success.

WM0G created a very simple rain gutter antenna with impressive results. His full report with pictures is posted on our site. Another customer living in Phoenix mounted a plastic rain gutter around his house. Inside the gutter, he ran a wire completely around the house which he loads as a horizontal loop with excellent DX results. Other customers have simply strung a wire around the house under the eves and loaded it as a horizontal loop, using the rain gutter as camouflage for the real antenna.

Rain Gutter antennas are a very old form of stealth antenna and can be very effective but there are some other things you must consider if you want to use your gutters:

- The wood the gutter is mounted to should be dry and of good quality. During wet weather, this type of antenna will usually perform very poorly.

나무로 만든 빗물받이에 전선을 넣어 설치한 경우 마른 상태라면 효과를 보겠지만 비가와서 젖은 날씨에는 성능이 아주 떨어집니다.

- If you have plastic gutters, you can run a wire inside them, but again in wet weather this will likely not work well. Some users have reported good results by mounting a wire behind the plastic gutter rather than in it.

프라스틱 빗물받이에도 전선을 깔아서 안테나로 쓸 수 있지만 역시 비가와서 젖어 있으면 잘 작동하지 않을 겁니다. 그대신 빗물받이를 따라 홈통 밖에 걸어둔 경우 괜찮다고 하네요.

- Corrosion is the enemy of all antennas, but rain gutters are particularly prone to corrosion, especially at the joints. You need to inspect it regularly.

녹은 모든 안테나의 적입니다. 특히 빗물받이의 경우 연결부위는 녹에 아주 취약합니다.

- All joints should be bonded electrically with braid or copper strapping material to provide electrical continuity. The manufacturer is more concerned with corrosion resistance and so electrically, each section will likely be isolated from the others. Poor joints can lead to signal rectification and RFI.

모든 연결부는 전기적으로 연결되도록 연선으로 겹합시켜 주던가 전기적 결합이 좋고 녹에 강한 구리로 연결해주면 좋습니다. 빗물받이 제조사는 녹스는걸 방지하기 위해 여러방안을 해놓는데(도색 등등으로 금속부 노출을 막아놓는다) 이것들이 오히려 전기적인 연결을 방해합니다. 불완전한 전기적 결합은 고주파 장애의 원인이 됩니다.

- It's prudent to insert a section of plastic piping about 8 feet above the ground to prevent anyone from coming into contact with a live section of the gutter while operating.

전파가 나가는 중에 행여 누군가 건들었다가 고주파 감전사고의 위험이 있으니 지상에서 2.5미터 가량의 높이로 절연 대책을 세워 두십시요.

- If your front and back gutters are not connected, you may be able to improve your signal by running a jumper wire from front to back. Running two wires at each end of the house can turn this into a horizontal loop.

지붕 처마 아래로 빗물받이가 있다면 수평 루푸 안테나를 설치할 수 있습니다. 만일 앞과 뒤로 빗물뱓이가 연결되어 있지 않다면 전선으로 연결해 주세요.
